Geologist

Location: Grand Haven, MI

Lakeshore Environmental, Inc. (LEI) is actively seeking a geologist to join its West Michigan team.  The successful candidate will undertake challenging and interesting work on a wide variety of projects related to water and wastewater permitting, compliance monitoring, and hydrogeological investigations.  The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated employee who can function independently and as part of a fast-paced team.

This position can be part-time or full-time for the right candidate. If hired full-time this position is eligible for health insurance, short-term disability, a Simple IRA with company match, and accrual of paid time off (PTO).

Position Description / Responsibilities:

  • Field work opportunities for this position will be year-round and will likely include some out-of-town travel.
  • Conduct field work including, but not limited to:
    • Wastewater, groundwater, and surface water sampling
    • Soil and/or sediment sampling
    • Drilling oversight, soil logging, soil boring, and monitoring well installation
    • Monitoring well development, purging and sampling, and construction oversight
    • Assist in groundwater and remedial system performance monitoring, maintenance, and optimization
    • Communicate with Project Managers, subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.
    • Other tasks, as needed
  • Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site work plans, spreadsheets, figures, and technical reports.
  • Provide support to hydrogeological studies and groundwater modeling
  • Assist in natural resources permitting, including (but not limited to) groundwater discharge permits, and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits
  • Focus on team project delivery, taking direction primarily from Project Managers
  • Work within quality, budget, schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related field is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Ability to work outside, lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Detail-oriented with mechanical aptitude with hands-on trouble shooting/problem solving skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
  • Ability to handle multiple project assignments and maintain flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines.

  • Strong commitment to customer service, sales, and marketing
