Accounting Assistant

Location: Grand Haven, MI

Lakeshore Environmental, Inc. (LEI) is actively seeking a motivated accounting professional to join their corporate office in Grand Haven, Michigan.  This position will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer with regular interaction with project managers and LEI executive team members.  The accounting assistant will help keep financial records, prepare reports and update financial information.  The ideal candidate must be proficient in Quickbooks, Excel and Word and be familiar with accounting procedures, best practices, laws, standards regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  Proven accounting experience required.

This position is for either full-time or part-time employment, to be discussed with the chosen applicant.  Minimum 20 hours per week (approximate) with potential to grow.  Flexible hours available to the right applicant.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist CFO in maintaining financial records, accounts receivable and accounts payable entries and account reconciliation
  • Payroll responsibilities, including preparing, fulfilling, and distributing employee paychecks and all tax deposits and payroll reporting
  • Assist CFO in financial analysis and preparation of reports
  • Monitor past due accounts and following up on collections in accordance with company policy
  • Review employee timesheets
  • Prepare project invoices

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Accounting
  • Minimum 3 years accounting experience in Quickbooks, payroll, receivables, and payables
  • Strong computer skills
  • Experience in Microsoft Suites
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong aptitude for numbers, spreadsheets, and financial reports

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 5 + years accounting experience in Quickbooks, payroll, receivables, and payables
  • Aptitude for Human Resources and IT beneficial, but not required

Project Geologist I

Location: Grand Haven, MI

Lakeshore Environmental, Inc. (LEI) is actively seeking a motivated geologist/geoscientist to join its West Michigan team.  The successful candidate will undertake challenging and interesting work on a wide variety of projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites.  The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated employee who can function independently and as part of a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field work including soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface water sampling, aquifer testing, drilling oversight and soil logging, soil boring and monitoring well installation, well development, purging and sampling, and construction oversight.
  • Operate direct push drilling rig (Geoprobe®)
  • Coordinate and direct drilling, surveying, and laboratory services.
  • Provide oversight on environmental remediation projects, and operations and maintenance of environmental remediation systems.
  • Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site work plans, spreadsheets, figures, and technical reports.
  • Assist in groundwater and remedial system performance monitoring, maintenance, and optimization.
  • Field work opportunities for this position will be year-round with some out-of-town travel.
  • Focus on team project delivery, taking direction primarily from Project Managers.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
  • Communicate with Project Managers, subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related field with 0 to 5 years’ experience.
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
  • Valid Driver’s License and a good driving record
  • Ability to succeed in a consulting pace, handling multiple project assignments, and maintaining flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or related field with 3 years’ experience.
  • Qualify as an Environmental Professional as defined by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM).
  • Ability to attain “Certified Professional Geologist (CPG)” status with the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG).
  • Detail oriented with mechanical aptitude with hands-on trouble shooting/problem solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Michigan Part 201 and Part 213 and associated guidance documents and operational memoranda.
  • Experience preparing documents for MDEQ and other regulatory agencies.
  • Strong commitment customer service, sales, and marketing.
  • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification

Environmental Due Diligence Department Manager

(LEI) is actively seeking a motivated geologist/geoscientist/environmental engineer to Manage the Environmental Due Diligence Department in the Grand Haven office.  The successful candidate will be responsible for oversight, direction, and growth of the department.  The ideal candidate will be a driven, self-motivated manager who can function independently and as part of a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of environmental professionals and project staff completing work related to Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments, Baseline Environmental Site Assessments and Documentation of Due Care Compliance reports to support property transactions.
  • Develop and monitor department progress and metrics, working with LEI Executive Team.
  • Supervise marketing efforts related to Environmental Due Diligence
  • Maintain and grow existing clients
  • Direct field work including soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface water sampling, aquifer testing, drilling oversight and soil logging, soil boring and monitoring well installation, well development, purging and sampling, and construction oversight.
  • Coordinate and direct drilling, surveying, and laboratory services.
  • Provide oversight on environmental remediation projects, and operations and maintenance of environmental remediation systems.
  • Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site work plans, spreadsheets, figures, and technical reports.
  • Review, sign off, and provide comments on reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
  • Qualified Environmental Professional as defined by ASTM International
  • Experience managing professional teams
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with Michigan Part 201 and Part 213 and associated guidance documents and operational memoranda
  • Valid Driver’s License and a good driving record.
  • Ability to succeed in a consulting atmosphere, handling multiple project assignments, and maintaining flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines.
